3 Month Wessers

Wesley is now smiling and cooing and almost laughing. He is very social and is finally starting to appreciate his brothers' efforts to entertain him (at least for a minute or two, until it becomes too much). Out of the corner of my eye while I'm doing something nearby I'll see him watching me, and when I finally look his direction he smiles and wiggles and kicks his little legs until I look away again.

Wesley still loves nursing, being held, and being talked to, still desperately hates his carseat and going to sleep, and is still unsure how he feels about his poor dad (though usually his reactions tend towards the negative). He's a pretty good sleeper at night, a pretty terrible sleeper during the day, but is pleasant nonetheless so we can't complain (too loudly).

Luckily, though Wes has taken away my attention and changed much of our home life, the only complaint Luke and Derek really have is that I'm always hogging him and they don't get to hold him as often.

To quote a friend from church, "Youngs, you sure make some good looking kids!"

Sweaty Soccer Fiends

All Luke wanted for his birthday party was a giant, real soccer game with his friends. Like 11 v 11, goalies and positions and refs and me and Kenny as coaches calling fouls and planning trick plays.

After about ten minutes most of his friends were too hot (Houston in May, people!), making a beeline for the playground. So he was left with himself and one or two other diehard soccer fans and their brave dads...(Though we still had to drag Luke and his friend Steven off the field when the dads quit after an hour of play)

...and a fireless birthday cupcake after the wind blew out his candles and the lighter stopped working.

It was enough. Happy birthday Luke!

2 Months

Since he is only two months for a few more days...

Sweet little Wesley is getting more adorable everyday! At his two month appointment he made family history by being my only baby so far to actually follow his growth chart (Luke and Derek both dropped off). He is also remarkably long, staying up in the 98th percentile.

He is learning how to smile and coos at those he really likes (and screams at his poor dad) and will only really wail when he's fed up with his carseat.

He is a pretty good night sleeper, a terrible alone-napper, and still isn't quite sure what to make of those two loud yet small beings who bounce around him gesturing wildly occasionally.

We love our little Wessers!

Five and Three Quarters no Longer!

Luke is now six. And is very proud of it.

Top five words to describe Luke:

1. Energetic: his kindergarten teacher (the fabulous Mrs. Fraps) let me know that she has never had a child who could go for as long and as hard as Luke. All of her other students will at some point or another complain about being tired or hot or bored, but Luke never quits. Even in 105 degree weather.

2. Confident: or maybe just oblivious? Things that would have mortified me as a child just dont seem to register with Luke. Things like yelling "I have to go poopoo!" in the middle of the school hallway or chanting all by himself at the top of his lungs at a baseball game or telling other kids why what they are doing is wrong and how to do it better. (Though we try to curb that last one)

3. Enthusiastic: Luke regularly yells (and wholeheartedly means) things like "this is so beautiful!"  And "this is the best day ever!" Or "this is the most fun I've ever had in my life!" And so on.

4. Inquisitive: two phrases that you can hear every day in our house are "Its time to stop talking, Luke" and "I'm not sure, you can ask your dad later". I still remember the first time I ever told Luke to stop talking a few years ago; I felt like a terrible mother. The feeling passed.

5. Outspoken: I blame Kenny. Especially because he has taught Luke how to back up all of his many likes, dislikes, and opinions with reasoning (which may or may not be sound, but Luke will tell it to you anyway!). Lawyers.

Happy birthday to the most energetic, talkative, sincere, authentic six-year-old I know!
