Sponge-brain

As a fun Easter activity I made Luke some educational eggs to help teach him his lower-case letters.

Turns out I needn't have bothered. The only ones he got confused were p, b, and d, and he hadn't ever seen little q before, but the only challenging part of this exercise turned out to be putting the eggs themselves together, since I apparently bought really crappy ones.

Where did he learn all of this? No idea.

What else is rolling around in his little brain?

Easter Egg-stravaganza

Luke has been a big fan of Easter. Big fan.

From our Passover dinner Thursday night...

the egg hunt with our play group...

his Easter basket...

dyeing Easter eggs...

the Easter egg devotional (or "Jesus eggs", as he calls them)...

to Cascarones with the Tanners.

(Luke never quite caught on to the whole idea of breaking them onto someone else's head, preferring instead to break them over his own)

Happy Easter!

Ruffles and Bows

From the beginning, when asked, Luke has only ever said he was going to have a sister when the baby came. I have been inclined to believe him, so while in Alabama with Mere Mere I had a bit of an accident at TJ Maxx.

Here's hoping he's right.

Sorting a Rainbow

In honor of the Irish.

And to hone his chopstick skills.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Six Weeks and Counting

Froglegs is due to make in appearance in six weeks or less (hopefully), so here is how the two of us are growing. (To compare to Luke at around the same time, see here)

All-in-all, this pregnancy is way easier, as far as I can remember. I have a lot more energy, am gaining far less weight (on purpose--we would like to avoid a Baby Hulk II if at all possible), and can still make it up our three flights of stairs with a full load of groceries in Ikea bags slung over my shoulders and a belligerent toddler in tow.

Any guesses on how big this one will be?

Shrimp Fishing: Ages 6 and Up

Since shrimp fishing was one of my favorite activities from last year, it was on my list of things Kenny had to try, and we (my mom and I, specifically) thought that Luke might enjoy the experience, too! After all, he gets to play with a long string attached to a stick, gets to see what shrimp look like alive, and gets to eat them after they have been caught.

Turns out Kenny and Baga were more correct in assuming that Luke would hate it.

The first ten minutes went well, for the most part, since Luke got to hold his own pole and was mildly excited by the idea of catching a shrimp, but when nothing happened and no shrimp appeared, he quickly lost interest and began entertaining himself by whipping the hooks around in the air and trying to see how far he could get the pole into the water before someone else grabbed it.

He did get to see a few shrimp (we caught three) and was even given a free shrimp by a nice man who noticed he was crying in the corner (because he was being disciplined) and thought it was because he was disappointed about not catching anything, but was much happier on a walk outside with Baba where he got to pee in the bushes.

And although he normally loves shrimp, he was about as excited to eat these as his dad was.

All-in-all, Baga summed up the experience quite nicely when he asked us as we were leaving,
"What in the world made you think he would enjoy that?"
